Basic network chart |
A basic network chart shows how entities are interconnected through the use of nodes and connecting lines. The round nodes are the entities that represent two dimensions. The lines between the nodes show how the entities of the first dimension are related to the entities of the second dimension.
When to use
Use a basic network chart to visualize complex relationships between a number of entities (for example, social media communicators, transportation routes, companies, or products).
Data requirements
To build this chart, define the required and optional data fields as follows:
- First dimension – One dimension
- Second dimension – One dimension
Important: This widget can visualize up to 100 data rows.
Use case
The following chart shows the relationships between the product lines (the first dimension) and countries (the second dimension). Click a node related to a specific product line to view all the countries (in the example, the market is restricted to the Nordic countries) where the goods related to that product line were sold. Click a node related to a specific country to view all the product lines whose goods were sold to that country.
In the example provided, by clicking the Computers node, you can see that computers were sold to four countries out of five (Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, and Norway).
Tip: Each time you click Visualize (without changing the settings), the application presents the chart differently to give the user a different view of the same data. You can also drag the chart to view it from different sides.
